Young German conductor/composer Matthais Pintscher makes his Grand Teton Music Festival debut in performances steeped in Spanish folk songs and musical traditions and inspired by legends of mythological proportions. Who better to join him for such an endeavor than the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, who consider themselves “the children of the Romeros” – the world-famous guitar quartet for whom Rodrigo composed the Concierto Andaluz. Then the conductor’s own work, Towards Osiris uses the orchestra to tell the tale of the Egyptian god and his dramatic restoration through the winged goddess, Isis. To end the program, Stravinsky’s thrilling Firebird Suite, the popular ballet score that gives life to the story of the magical glowing bird that brings both blessings and doom to its captor with music that is equally mysterious, whimsical and electrifying.

MADE – Summer Artist Series Thursday Night

Sam and Jenny Dowd will finally bring both of their lines of pottery to the Town Square in Jackson Hole!

MADE will host the Dowd’s work for one day this Thursday. Come by anytime from 9-9, and make sure to stop in from 6-9 for the artists reception – meet Sam and Jenny, see what’s new at MADE, and have some refreshments!

Sam has been working on a new style of bowls featuring wildlife and local fish. Jenny has a porcelain collection of cups, bowls, and even some cupcake stands!

As always MADE carries work from almost 80 artists, and is located in Gaslight Alley.

Travel Resumes Tonight Through Lamar Valley at Soda Butte

Vehicle travel through Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley will resume tonight at 7:00 pm following a June 24 road washout between Tower Junction and the park’s Northeast Entrance near Soda Butte.

Park crews used specialized heavy equipment to repair approximately 200 feet of road that was damaged by high water at the confluence between the Lamar River and Soda Butte Creek. Nearly 100 loads of rock and fill dirt were needed to provide a stable roadbed and restore full lane width across the undercut area.

A second high water area affecting the road two tenths of a mile downstream from last Friday’s washout prompted crews to spend an additional day stabilizing approximately 50 feet of road with dirt and large boulders to proactively avert another washout situation.

Two-way travel will be permitted through the newly-repaired section of road. However, drivers are cautioned to reduce speed through the temporary gravel surface, which will be marked with the appropriate road hazard signage.

High and fast-rushing water at the confluence due to heavy late spring runoff was the contributing factor in causing the washout.

Park staff members are closely monitoring other portions of the Northeast Entrance road that may be vulnerable to undercutting and washouts as warm temperatures forecasted in the coming days are expected to keep river and stream flows high.

Visitors are cautioned that changing weather during this time of year can cause road closures with little or no advance warning.
